The Period 4 Maine History class taught by Mr. Tony Beal is participating in a Maple Sugaring project to tap trees and make maple syrup. Students first went to the internet and researched how to tap trees. Then, students each selected a tree on the school’s property to tap. Students used a drill to drill into each tree. Then, they hammered the spile into the tree and watched the sap run out. Finally, the students took their buckets and tied them around the trees with bungee cords and string. The project should last for another week, and once the students have enough sap, they will boil it down and make maple syrup.
