On Friday October 20th, the number 5 seeded Royals were upset in front of their home fans by the 12th seeded Ashland Hornets by a score of 2-1 in a Class D North prelim game. Sophomore Nick Guptill scored the first goal of the game for the Royals but was tied up by Ashland’s Alex Kaiser in the 2nd half, and Kaiser scored on a corner kick with under 10 minutes to go to put Ashland up 2-1.
As for the Royalettes volleyball team, they fell to Calais in straight sets (3 to 0) on Saturday the 21st in a Class C quarterfinal game. Sophomore Madelyn Thistlewood and Seniors Reanna Smith, and J-Lynn Beal were the best servers for the Royalettes in the loss as they all never missed a serve (16/16, 6/6, and 3/3 respectively). Junior Alexsis Sprowl added 7 kills and went 8/9 serving. Sophomore Kaylee Ireland had 8 digs and went 10/12 serving.
Junior Evan Merchant put on a show at the Northern Maine regionals for Cross Country. Merchant finished in 4th place and had a time of 17:21. Way to go Evan! Merchant will race again this Saturday, the 28th at the state competition in Cumberland.
